Neutropenia

In case you are interested in learning more about white blood cells (and who isn't?), I found out that a low neutrophils count is a condition called neutropenia. The lower your neutrophil count, the more vulnerable you are to infectious diseases. Mayo recommends patients with neutropenia wear a face mask, avoid anyone with a cold, and wash hands frequently.

How disappointing to go all the way to Rochester and not be able to have chemo! From Sylvia's comment I gather that for her to go "home", meant returning to MI! I hope it is a refreshing time for you all!

At some point it might be worth while to see if the Mayo staff have a lab here in Mpls. that they could trust with doing your Mom's pre-chemo blood work, to avoid a wasted trip again.
