Home

You know the famous line from Wizard of Oz?

"There's no place like home."

It is so true.

Ma is at home and was beyond happy to get there on Sunday evening after a long day in the car.

And when we arrived back in DC on Monday, Gabbie was so happy she was rolling around in her bed and running around in circles. It was nice to get home - for everyone.

Doxil

I just wanted to post an update for everyone on what happened at the Mayo Clinic on Wednesday.

Mavis picked me up from the airport and we stopped to pick up Ma at the house. My flight was a little late and so we arrived about 30 minutes late at Mayo for the blood tests. The nurses were cool though and took Ma right in for the blood draw. After that we all just relaxed in the lounge and even scored a couple of the coveted-by-all recliners in the waiting lounge. We waited there until 1:30 pm for the next appointment with Dr. Hartmann. She asked alot of questions about how Ma was doing and listened intently to Ma's symptoms and then talked about next steps. Dr. Hartmann scheduled a chemo treatment and instead of Carboplatin and Taxol, the chemotherapy drug will be doxil.

The nurses started the chemo treatment out slowly because it was Ma's first time with the drug. They didn't want to overdo it in case of a bad reaction. Ma tolerated it and so the nurses increased the amount. The entire treatment took an hour and a half. Unlike the Carboplatin/Taxol cocktail, the Doxil does not make her drowsy so we were able to watch and enjoy the baseball game (Dodgers and Cardinals) and even caught the first part of the Twins-Yankees game. So we made the best out of it.

We drove back to Minneapolis afterward and made it home safely and without incident after a long 10-hour day on the road.

The next appointment day is scheduled for Wednesday, November 11.

At Mayo Clinic Tomorrow

Over the last several days, Ma has been experiencing pain and discomfort. Yesterday Sylvia got in touch with Dr. Hartmann, who recommended that Ma travel back to the Mayo Clinic right away. So yesterday we bought her a ticket and she is flying today to Minneapolis.

The appointments start tomorrow (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. central time and will go all day.

As of now, Dr. Hartmann also scheduled chemo treatment as well for tomorrow and that will take two hours. The chemo drug this time around will be Doxil - which is used to treat ovarian cancer when it returns.

I'll be updating this blog throughout the day tomorrow from the Mayo Clinic.
