Home

Okay they just made it home to Baraga. It's been a long day.

ETA

Mom and Sylvia are just passing through Wakefield, so it looks like they will have a later than expected ETA. It looks like now they will be arriving into Baraga at about 10:30 p.m.

Clam Lake

Sylvia and Mom just passed through Clam Lake, Wisconsin and apparently they have a herd of elk wandering around the outskirts of town.

If we had known about this before, we could have checked for Elk Updates!

Say Cheese!

I bet you didn’t know this: Wisconsin produces 35% of all cheese made in the U.S.

I didn’t know either, until Sylvia and Mom just told me they drove by a cheese factory in Comstock, Wisconsin!

Check out this website to see a list of cheese factories in Wisconsin or click here to view a map of all the cheese factory locations. There are hundreds! There is even a Wisconsin association of cheese factories and they produced a cheese 101 website.

Is it just me? or are you suddenly craving cheese too?

Scenic Route

Sylvia and Mom are driving from Minneapolis to Baraga today. And, with so many trips back and forth, the regular route through Wausau is getting boring for everybody. So to change it up, they are taking the scenic route.

Sylvia and Mom found out about this new route from our cousin Mavis and her husband while visiting with them in St. Paul lastnight. It will be a nice change of pace, and a shorter, better route involving county roads, scenic views, and quaint rest stops.

Sylvia and Mom are hoping to leave Minneapolis shortly. I am projecting their ETA (estimated time of arrival) into Baraga to be around 7:30 p.m. eastern time.

I'll keep you posted on their progress.

No Surgery

Just now I spoke with Mave, who drove from Minneapolis this morning to be at the appointments with Sylv and Mom.

Dr. Cliby is not recommending surgery at this time.

Here's why: first, there is a high risk of complications that could occur during surgery. Second, the CT scan showed that the masses were no longer visible. And for these reasons, Dr. Preema re-affirmed during her evaluation that the chemo treatments can be discontinued.

The treatment plan will now shift to check-ups every two or three months at the Mayo Clinic.

Surgery Consultation

Today is the consultation with Dr. Cliby, the gynecologic oncology surgeon:

10:30 a.m., Consultation with Dr. Cliby, Mayo Building, 12th Floor, Desk 12 East

Then Mom meets with Dr. Preema:

11:00 a.m., Oncology evaluation with Dr. Preema, Gonda Building, 10th Floor, Desk 10 South

As always, all appointment times are central time.

It will be a busy morning with a lot of information. I will update you as soon as I hear something.
